Electrical Installation of an Oak Framed Family Home

Project Overview

This project involved the complete electrical installation for a bespoke oak-framed residential property located in the Oxfordshire countryside. The home, designed with both traditional craftsmanship and modern energy efficiency in mind, required a careful blend of aesthetics and functionality. 

Planning and Design Considerations

One of the primary challenges was working around the visible oak frame, which meant that surface-mounted cabling were not acceptable. Our team worked closely with the builders during the early stages to pre-plan cable routes. We created a detailed wiring plan that aligned with structural tolerances and avoided damage to the frame. 

Installation and Coordination

The electrical installation included all internal power and lighting circuits, data cabling for smart home integration, underfloor heating controls, solar panels and an EV charger. We installed discreet LED lighting to highlight architectural features and energy-efficient heating controls to meet modern performance standards. The use of wireless switching systems in select areas helped reduce invasive cabling and preserved the visual appeal of the exposed frame. Collaboration with other trades was key to ensuring smooth sequencing and avoiding rework.

Outcome and Client Feedback

The project was completed on schedule and to a high standard, with the electrical system seamlessly blending into the home’s traditional look. The client was particularly pleased with the hidden wiring, warm lighting ambiance and solar integration. This installation demonstrates how thoughtful electrical design can respect traditional architecture while delivering modern performance.
